Medicare Supplements
Coverage that works alongside Original Medicare and picks up costs it leaves behind.

Who this is for
The people we usually see for this
Someone new to Medicare or retiring who wants to understand Original Medicare and how a Medicare Supplement fits alongside it.
Often it is a person who likes the idea of predictable healthcare costs, or who travels and wants care available anywhere Medicare is accepted.

What people get wrong
That the plans are interchangeable. The plan letter may be standardized, but the company, the premium, the rate history and the way you are treated when you call are not.
The other one is scope. A Medicare Supplement does not include prescription drug coverage, so Part D is a separate conversation. It does not cover dental, vision or hearing either.
Before you call
What people worry about
Three things come up almost every time.
Can I change companies
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on your situation and on the rules that apply where you live, which is why this one is worth a conversation rather than a web search.
Will I have to answer health questions
That depends on when you apply and on what you already have. It is usually the question that decides whether a change is even on the table.
Is what I have still right for me
Plan letters are standardized. The company behind them, the premium and the rate history are not.
Our work
Where we come in
We educate. Our job is not to push you into changing, and sometimes the answer is that you should stay exactly where you are.
We also look at the bigger picture, including Part D and any gaps you may want to address.

What working together actually looks like
We start with what you have today and what prompted the call. We look at your current Supplement, the premium, your Part D coverage and what matters to you.
Then we walk through the options, including Plan G, Plan N, Plan F and High Deductible G, and the underwriting rules that apply to each. We compare the carriers and the rates available to you, and you decide from there.

Questions about this coverage
What people ask most often about this one, answered the way we would answer on the phone.
Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement, also called Medigap, are two different ways to manage your Medicare coverage and your out of pocket costs.
Which one fits depends on your healthcare needs, your providers, your prescriptions, your budget and your own preference. We lead with education so you understand the differences and the options available in your state and county.
No. Five-0-Nine Insurance is an independent, licensed insurance agency. Our agents maintain the required licenses and complete annual carrier and Medicare certifications.
We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Medicare, CMS, the Social Security Administration or any government agency.
Provider networks are an important part of choosing health insurance. Depending on the plan you may have an HMO, a PPO or another type of network, and the rules for getting care outside that network can vary a great deal.
If keeping your current doctors, specialists, hospitals or care team matters to you, we make provider access part of the coverage review. We research the available plan networks and explain the differences between HMO and PPO options so you can make an informed decision.
Provider participation can change, so we also recommend confirming network status directly with your providers and your insurance carrier.
