Individual and family health

Coverage you buy for yourself, for the years before Medicare.

Washington state with our three offices marked in Spokane, Yakima and Walla Walla.

Who this is for

The people we usually see for this

You do not have health insurance through an employer and you are not yet on Medicare. Maybe you are self employed. Maybe you retired early and left the employer plan behind. Maybe COBRA is on the table and the number does not work.

Whatever brought you here, you need coverage for yourself or your family and you are starting from scratch.

What people get wrong

That individual plans are all roughly the same, and that the cheapest premium is the best choice because it sits at the top of the list.

Networks are the real question. Are there providers and urgent care near you that accept the plan? Deductibles, copays, prescription coverage and out of pocket costs can differ a great deal between two plans that look alike on price. Depending on your household income you may also qualify for financial help through Advanced Premium Tax Credits, on the state or the national exchange.

One more thing people miss. Your information needs updating through the year, not only at renewal.

Before you call

What people worry about

Three things come up almost every time.

01

Will my doctor take it

The cheapest premium is easy to find. Whether your doctor is in that network is not, and February is an expensive time to find out.

02

Am I missing something

Financial help exists for some households and not others. Either way, you should not have to guess whether you qualify.

03

Will I actually be able to use it

The lowest premium is not always the lowest cost. Deductibles, copays and out-of-pocket limits vary a lot between plans, and those are the numbers that decide what you actually pay.

Our work

Where we come in

You can enroll yourself through the exchange. Plenty of people do.

What we add is the whole picture. We look at networks, your doctors, premiums, deductibles, likely out of pocket costs and what you are trying to protect, then we narrow it down and explain the differences in plain language. You decide. We help with the enrollment and we are still here after the coverage starts.

What working together actually looks like

We start with a conversation about what is going on in your life, who needs coverage, which doctors you want to keep and what matters most to you.

From there we narrow the choices and walk through the differences. Once you decide, we help with the enrollment. When something changes, a job, a baby, a move, you call us and we work out what it means for your coverage.

Questions about this coverage

What people ask most often about this one, answered the way we would answer on the phone.

There is typically no additional cost to work with us. As independent insurance agents, we are generally compensated by the insurance carriers we represent.

Our role is to help you understand your options, answer your questions, and help you look at the bigger picture of your health insurance and protection planning.

Provider networks are an important part of choosing health insurance. Depending on the plan you may have an HMO, a PPO or another type of network, and the rules for getting care outside that network can vary a great deal.

If keeping your current doctors, specialists, hospitals or care team matters to you, we make provider access part of the coverage review. We research the available plan networks and explain the differences between HMO and PPO options so you can make an informed decision.

Provider participation can change, so we also recommend confirming network status directly with your providers and your insurance carrier.

Life changes can affect your insurance needs. Losing employer coverage, moving, getting married or divorced, or retiring may create an opportunity to enroll in or change health insurance outside the normal enrollment period.

It is also a good time to review life insurance, disability, supplemental coverage and other protection needs. Because enrollment windows can be limited, contact us promptly so we can help you understand your options and the deadlines that apply.

Eligibility and enrollment periods vary by coverage and by individual circumstances.

We offer a broad range of health and protection options for individuals, families, small businesses and retirees. That includes individual and ACA health insurance, life insurance, disability and income protection, accident coverage, cancer, hospital indemnity, heart attack and stroke coverage, dental and vision, long term care planning, employee benefits, and Medicare coverage.
